Selection process
Applications are assessed by Handloom and Textile Department officials at the district level. The review is essentially a verification exercise: the officers check that the applicant genuinely meets the scheme's conditions and that the papers submitted are authentic.
What gets examined
- The weaver's current professional status — in particular whether a traditional weaver is actively working in the handloom trade
- Membership details with the relevant co-operative society, association, organisation or the Karnataka Development Corporation
- The need for and relevance of the equipment being requested
Additional checks in specific cases
- For young weavers, the training certificate obtained under a government scheme is validated
- For applicants buying a warping machine, both the certificate of experience in washing and the availability of suitable space for installation are examined
Once these checks are cleared, the subsidy is approved and disbursed in two stages — half at the verification stage and half after the equipment purchase is confirmed.
