Frequently asked questions

How much does the Power Subsidy Scheme actually pay?

An eligible IT Unit gets a 20% subsidy on its power charges. The amount is capped at ₹5,00,000 per unit in a year, so even if 20% of your bill works out higher, the payment for that year stops at ₹5 lakh. Duties and taxes are not part of the calculation — only the power charges themselves.

Who can apply for this subsidy?

The scheme is open to Information Technology Units that have operations in Goa, whether they are newly set up or already running. Your organisation has to be a Proprietorship firm, a Private Limited Company (including a Public Limited Company), a Registered Partnership Firm, or a Limited Liability Partnership. Your unit's bank accounts — or those of its partners or directors — must also be linked to Aadhaar.

How long can my unit keep receiving the subsidy?

The benefit runs for a period of 3 years. That three-year clock starts from whichever is later: the date your unit began operations, or the date the policy was notified.

Is DPIIT or MSME registration required to apply?

The published eligibility conditions for this scheme do not include DPIIT or MSME registration. What is required is that the unit has operations in Goa, that it is one of the recognised entity types (proprietorship, private or public limited company, registered partnership firm, or LLP), and that the unit's or its partners'/directors' bank accounts are Aadhaar-linked.

Does the scheme take equity or a stake in my company?

No. This is a subsidy from the Department of Information Technology, Government of Goa, so there is no equity, shareholding or ownership stake taken in return for the support. The benefit is purely a reduction in your power costs.

What is the application deadline?

There is no fixed deadline — applications are accepted on a rolling basis. A unit can apply quarterly, bi-annually or annually, and it normally applies after incurring the power expenditure for which it is claiming the subsidy.

How do I apply for the Power Subsidy Scheme?

Applications are made online through the Goa Online portal (goaonline.gov.in). Register with your email ID and mobile number using OTP verification, complete the registration form with all mandatory fields and create a login name and password, then log in. From the top ribbon go to "Services", choose "IT Services", and select the Power Subsidy Scheme to open its application form. Fill in the mandatory fields, upload the required documents and submit. A unique registration number is generated — keep it for future reference.

How long does approval and payment take?

Once your application is received (day D), it is scrutinised against a predefined checklist within 30 days (D+30). The Empowered Committee then reviews and approves it, normally within 60 days of receipt (D+60). A sanction order or a regret letter follows, and the subsidy is disbursed within 90 days of the application being received (D+90).

What documents do I need to submit?

The application is completed on the Goa Online portal, where all mandatory fields must be filled in and the required documents uploaded before submission. The scheme's published details do not list a fixed document set, so check the current application form on the portal for the exact papers it asks for at the time you apply.
