Overview

The Akash Coherent ImpactTech Program is a 4-6 month acceleration initiative spearheaded by the AIC-IIITH Foundation, which is the Atal Incubation Centre at IIIT Hyderabad. This program operates in collaboration with Coherent Corp and receives crucial backing from the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog. Its core mission is to bridge the critical "transition gap" – the challenging phase where a functional lab prototype, typically at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3, needs to evolve into a product ready for market deployment. The program maintains a specific focus on deep-tech innovations that are designed to tackle pressing social or climate issues, thereby contributing directly to India's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Selected startups and individual innovators are awarded milestone-based, equity-free grant support of up to ₹2,20,000. This funding is not provided as a lump sum but is rather disbursed in tranches upon the successful achievement of pre-defined milestones. This structure ensures that financial support is directly tied to tangible progress from a prototype stage towards a validated, functional pilot.

Beyond the capital injection, participants gain extensive access to the robust IIIT Hyderabad ecosystem. This includes a valuable Research Connect with IIITH's various research centres, the opportunity to utilise the IIITH Smart City Lab test bed, and access to CIE IIITH's comprehensive startup services, advanced lab facilities, and skilled talent. The program also features intensive bootcamps, expert-led masterclasses, and tailored mentorship from domain specialists on crucial aspects like business modelling and scaling for maximum impact. Depending on their maturity and readiness, startups may also be invited to participate in demo days and could be considered for follow-on seed funding opportunities.

The strategic objective of this program is to de-risk cutting-edge deep-tech research, guiding it towards commercial viability without requiring founders to dilute their equity at a vulnerable early stage. Key technology pillars within the program's scope encompass IoT, AI/ML, computer vision, robotics, drones, and other similar emerging technologies. These are applied across vital sectors such as sustainability, healthcare, and community resilience.

The program is ideally suited for early-stage tech startups, as well as for researchers or innovators who possess an impact-focused prototype and are committed to transforming it into a for-profit venture. It is important to note that all selected participants are required to secure at least one accelerator seat at AIC-IIITH for a duration of six months and must pay a one-time incubation fee of ₹10,000.
