FAQ

Answers to the questions founders most often ask about West Bengal Powerloom Patent Registration Subsidy — Up to ₹5 Lakh for MSMEs — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.

Frequently asked questions

How much funding does this patent subsidy actually pay out?

The scheme refunds half of what you spent on patent registration, and the refund cannot exceed ₹5,00,000. So if your eligible registration expense is ₹6 lakh, you receive ₹3 lakh; if it crosses ₹10 lakh, the payout still stops at ₹5 lakh.

Who can apply for this subsidy?

Any micro, small or medium enterprise operating in West Bengal's powerloom sector. That includes private units, cooperative societies, joint-sector ventures, companies or undertakings owned and managed by the State Government, and Industrial Self-Help Groups.

Is there a rule about when my unit started production?

Yes. Your enterprise must have started commercial production between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2024. Units that began production outside this window are not covered.

What is the application deadline?

The last date to apply is 31 December 2025. There is a second timing condition as well: your application has to reach the Directorate of Textiles within 12 months of the day your unit began commercial production, so the earlier of the two dates effectively applies.

Does the scheme take equity in my company or require repayment?

Neither. This is a subsidy, not an investment or a loan. The amount is paid to you as a reimbursement of patent registration expenditure, you give up no shares, and nothing has to be paid back.

Can cooperative units, State Government undertakings or self-help groups apply?

Yes. The scheme is not limited to privately owned companies. Cooperative sector units, joint sector units, enterprises owned and managed by the State Government and Industrial Self-Help Groups are all listed as eligible applicants, provided the other conditions are met.

What documents do I need to submit?

You apply in the prescribed format, Form-A2. Along with it you will need a detailed feasibility report or project plan prepared for the purpose, proof that a financial institution has approved and sanctioned your project, records of the patent registration expenditure you are claiming, and the executed four-party agreement with the Directorate of Textiles, a financial institution and Tantuja.

How and where do I submit my application?

Applications are submitted offline. The completed Form-A2 with all enclosures goes to the Directorate of Textiles, Handlooms, Spinning Mills, Silk Weaving & Handloom Based Handicrafts Division, New Secretariat Buildings, 1, K. S. Roy Road, 5th Floor, 'B' Block, Kolkata 700001. The office can be reached on 033-2248 4537 or 033-2248 6271 (Ext. 215), fax 033-2248 4537.
