Frequently asked questions
How much money does the UP IT/ITeS operating expense subsidy actually give?
A qualifying unit gets 10% of its eligible operating costs reimbursed, subject to a ceiling of ₹20 crore per annum. Spread across the five years of eligibility, that ceiling adds up to as much as ₹100 crore for a single unit. Only the four listed cost heads count towards the calculation.
Which expenses can I claim under this scheme?
Four categories are recognised: lease rentals on office space (including co-working desks), bandwidth charges paid to a licensed internet service provider, data centre or cloud service costs, and power charges for the electricity the unit consumes.
Is there a limit on how much rent I can claim?
Yes. Lease reimbursement is worked out against a maximum rental of ₹50 per square foot per month. If your rent runs higher than that, the difference stays with you. The same lease benefit is available to units operating from co-working spaces.
Who is eligible to apply?
New IT and ITeS units that establish their operations in Uttar Pradesh and commit a minimum fixed capital investment of ₹2 crore. Both standard leased offices and co-working setups are accepted as premises.
How long does the subsidy continue?
The reimbursement runs for five years starting from the date the unit commences commercial operations.
Can I apply at any time, or is there a deadline?
There is no fixed closing date — the scheme operates on a rolling basis, so applications can be submitted through the state's online portal at https://niveshmitra.up.gov.in/ whenever the unit is ready.
Does the government take equity or a stake in my company?
No. This is a reimbursement-based subsidy, not an equity investment. The state pays back a portion of costs your unit has already incurred, and it does not acquire shares or ownership in the business as a result.
Can I use any cloud or data centre provider?
No. The data centre or cloud service provider must be located within Uttar Pradesh and hold a valid GSTIN under the Uttar Pradesh Goods and Services Tax Act. For bandwidth, the payment has to go to a licensed internet service provider.
Where do I submit the application?
Applications are made through the Uttar Pradesh government's online portal at https://niveshmitra.up.gov.in/. Since the scheme has no closing date, you can file once your unit's operations and eligible expenses are in place.
