Frequently asked questions
How much subsidy can an MSME actually receive?
It depends on which sector band the enterprise falls into. An MSME in the Non-Thrust Sector is reimbursed 30% of its eligible fixed capital spending, subject to a ceiling of ₹100 lakhs per enterprise. An MSME in the Thrust Sector is reimbursed 40%, with the ceiling rising to ₹125 lakhs per enterprise. Both ceilings apply per enterprise, not per machine or per building.
What does the extra 5% for ST, SC, PH and Women enterprises mean?
Such enterprises can claim 5% more than the standard MSME rate, but the extra slice does not sit outside the cap — it stays within the ₹100 lakhs or ₹125 lakhs ceiling that applies to their sector. It is a top-up available to these founders, not a separate reserved window, so the scheme remains open to everyone else as well.
Are Large units eligible, or is this only for MSMEs?
Large units are eligible on a separate track. They receive 30% or 40% of what they invest in land and building, with an overall subsidy ceiling of ₹200 lakhs. Since Large units sit inside this incentive alongside MSMEs, it is not an MSME-only scheme.
Does an expansion project qualify, or only a brand-new factory?
Both qualify. New industrial enterprises and expanding ones can claim, and a substantial expansion is paid at the same 30% or 40% MSME rates, within the same MSME ceilings.
Can a private industrial park or infrastructure developer claim this subsidy?
No. Private industrial-infrastructure developers fall outside this incentive. The intended claimant is an industrial enterprise putting money into its own fixed capital — building a factory, expanding a plant, or putting up land and building for its own operations — and such developers are screened out during verification.
Is the money a loan, and does the State take equity?
It is neither. The Capital Investment Subsidy is a reimbursement of eligible capital you have already spent, released after the department verifies the investment. No shares are taken and the amount is not asked back, provided the enterprise remains eligible.
Where do I file the claim?
Applications go through SWAAGAT, the Tripura Government's single-window portal at https://swaagat.tripura.gov.in/, and through your District Industries Centre under the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tripura.
Is there an application deadline or an annual window?
There is none in this incentive. TIIPIS 2022 runs on a rolling basis, so claims can be filed when the investment is complete and the records are ready, rather than being tied to a fixed date in the calendar.
What proof does the department usually want to see?
Evidence that the unit is located in Tripura, that the money went into eligible fixed capital (or into land and building, for Large units), and that it was genuinely spent — invoices, bank payment records, land documents, and proof of commissioning or of the expansion. MSMEs claiming an MSME rate band should also be ready with their Udyam papers, and anyone claiming the extra 5% should carry documents supporting ST, SC, PH or Women ownership.
Is Udyam registration compulsory to claim?
Udyam registration is the cleanest way for an MSME to prove its category and establish whether the 30% or the 40% band applies to it. It is not, however, the gate for the scheme as a whole — Large units qualify through their own track and are not shut out by it.
