Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Subsidy for Fund Raising from SME Exchange — Up to ₹30L, Tamil Nadu — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.
Frequently asked questions
How much money does this subsidy actually pay out?
Assistance goes up to ₹30 lakh, but it can never exceed 50% of the total expenditure the enterprise incurred on its SME IPO listing. The lower of the two figures is what gets reimbursed.
Which expenses does the scheme reimburse?
The reimbursement covers costs directly linked to the listing process: Merchant Banker Fees, Due Diligence Fees, Registrar and Transfer Agent Fees, Peer Review Auditor Fees, Exchange Fees and Listing Charges. Expenses outside these heads are not covered.
Who is eligible to apply?
The applicant must be a new Micro or Small enterprise that was set up in one of the 254 industrially backward blocks declared by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It must also be qualified for listing under the norms prescribed by the National Stock Exchange or the Bombay Stock Exchange for the SME Exchange.
Do services companies qualify, or is this only for manufacturers?
Both are covered. The scheme is designed for high growth potential Micro and Small enterprises in the manufacturing sector as well as the services sector.
Do I need to be located in a specific part of Tamil Nadu?
Yes. The enterprise must be set up in one of the 254 industrially backward blocks declared by the state government. A unit operating from any other location in Tamil Nadu would not meet this condition.
What is the application deadline?
The scheme is open on a rolling basis, so there is no single closing date to beat. However, the application has to be filed within six months from the date the enterprise is listed on the SME Exchange, which means the filing window opens once the IPO is complete.
Does the government take equity or a stake in my company for this subsidy?
No. This is a subsidy paid out as a reimbursement of expenses already incurred, not an investment. The department does not receive shares or any ownership in the enterprise in return for the funding.
How do I apply for the subsidy?
Applications are filed online on the MSME Department's portal at https://www.msmetamilnadu.tn.gov.in/new-schemes.php. You register with your name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, email ID and mobile number, log in, select the scheme, fill in the application form, note the reference number, and then upload your mandatory documents in the prescribed format and size before submitting the application. A confirmation that the application has gone to GM/DIC or RJD arrives on your registered mobile number, and you can track the status on the portal.
What kind of documents will be checked?
You upload the mandatory documents listed on the portal in the specified format and size, and you can click "View" to confirm they were uploaded correctly. Because the department verifies the incurred expenditure during assessment, your supporting financial records for the covered cost heads are central to the review.
How is the application assessed after submission?
The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Department reviews the application, confirms the enterprise meets the eligibility criteria, verifies that the claimed expenses were actually incurred, and checks that the enterprise qualified for SME Exchange listing under NSE or BSE norms. Once everything is in order, the reimbursement is approved.
