Maharashtra Lab Capital Grant — Up to ₹5 Cr for Testing Labs — Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Maharashtra Lab Capital Grant — Up to ₹5 Cr for Testing Labs — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.

Frequently asked questions

How much funding can a laboratory receive under this scheme?

The grant-in-aid meets up to 50% of the capital cost of establishing the laboratory, subject to a ceiling of ₹5 crore per laboratory. Land is not counted when the capital cost is worked out, so the support applies to the rest of the project outlay.

Is this a loan or an equity investment?

Neither. It is a grant-in-aid, which means the money is non-repayable and no equity, shares or ownership stake is taken by the state in exchange.

Who is eligible to apply?

Units that are establishing Quality, Testing and Certification Laboratories in Maharashtra are the eligible applicants. The scheme is built around the laboratory facility being created, and support extends only to the first 12 laboratories established during the policy period.

What costs does the grant actually cover?

It covers capital cost — the investment in setting up the laboratory — with land excluded from the calculation. The state funds up to half of that capital cost, capped at ₹5 crore per laboratory.

Is there a deadline to apply?

There is no fixed deadline; the scheme runs on a rolling basis and stays open. The real constraint is the 12-laboratory cap, so once that many laboratories have been established during the policy period, the incentive is exhausted — applying early is in your interest.

How many laboratories can receive this incentive in total?

The incentive is limited to the first 12 laboratories set up during the policy period. Approval depends both on the merits of a proposal and on the applicant being among those first 12.

Do I need DPIIT or MSME registration to apply?

Neither is stated as a blanket requirement. MSME or DPIIT certificates are listed among the supporting documents to be provided where applicable, alongside incorporation documents and financial statements, so they help where they apply to your unit.

What documents and details go into the application?

Applicants are generally expected to submit a detailed project proposal containing a capital cost breakdown (excluding land), a project timeline and the proposed utilisation of the laboratory. Along with it go incorporation documents, MSME or DPIIT certificates if applicable, financial statements, and any formats or declarations prescribed by the implementing agency.

How and where do I apply?

Register the unit and project with the relevant state industrial department or portal — MAITRI is the example given — and then submit the project proposal. The MAITRI login is available at https://maitri.maharashtra.gov.in/login.

What happens after I submit my proposal?

A state-level committee or designated authority reviews the application. It checks eligibility, assesses the feasibility of the project and weighs how well the proposal fits the objectives of the Maharashtra Industries Investment and Services Policy 2025. Approval is followed by grant disbursement.

Which policy does this incentive sit under?

It is part of the Maharashtra Industries Investment and Services Policy 2025 and is administered by the Directorate of Industries, Government of Maharashtra.
