Frequently asked questions
How much funding can I get from the Jyoti Gramodyog Vikas Yojana?
The margin money subsidy ranges from ₹25,000 to ₹4,50,000. The exact figure depends on your total project cost and the category you belong to. General category applicants get 25% of a project costing up to ₹10 lakh, and for bigger projects the rate is 25% on the first ₹10 lakh plus 10% on the portion above that, subject to the overall ceiling. SC/ST, women and physically handicapped applicants start at 30% instead of 25%.
What project cost does the scheme support?
Projects must cost between ₹1,00,000 and ₹25,00,000. Anything below or above that band does not fit the scheme.
Who is eligible to apply for this subsidy?
Individual artisans and entrepreneurs can apply, as can members of an active Grade-II Self-Help Group. You must be between 25 and 50 years old, have passed at least Class 10 from a recognised board, and have either one year of experience in the activity you are proposing or relevant training. The unit itself has to be located in a rural area with a population of no more than 20,000 and a 24x3-phase power supply.
Is there a last date to submit the application?
No. The scheme runs on a rolling basis, so applications are accepted through the year rather than against a single national cut-off. Any submission window that applies in your district is set by the District Industries Centre, so it is worth confirming the current position with your DIC when you collect the form.
Does the scheme take equity in my business or require repayment?
Neither. This is a subsidy, not an investment or a loan. The margin money amount is not repaid and the government takes no share or stake in your venture.
Which types of business entities are not allowed to apply?
Partnership firms, private limited companies, joint ventures, HUFs and similar commercial entities are specifically excluded. The scheme is meant for individuals and Grade-II Self-Help Groups only.
When exactly will the subsidy money reach my account?
Disbursement happens after the business has completed two years of successful operation. The District Industries Centre carries out the verification at that point, and the subsidy is then credited directly to the beneficiary's account.
Does the subsidy pay for land and building?
No. Land and building costs are left out of the subsidy calculation. The support is meant for machinery, raw materials and working capital, with working capital capped at 10% of the total project cost.
Do women, SC/ST and physically handicapped applicants get better terms?
Yes. Instead of the 25% rate that general category applicants receive, these groups get 30% for projects up to ₹10 lakh, and 30% on the first ₹10 lakh plus 10% on the remainder for larger projects up to the ₹25 lakh project ceiling. The overall subsidy still tops out at ₹4.5 lakh.
How do I apply, and what do I need to submit?
Collect the prescribed application form from the District Industries Centre in your district, or download it from the official Cottage and Rural Industries Department website and apply there. Fill in all mandatory fields, affix a passport-sized photograph (signed across where required), and attach self-attested copies of the necessary documents. Submit the signed form and papers to the designated staff at the DIC, and collect an acknowledgement receipt that notes the submission date, time and a unique identification number if one is issued.
