What is the maximum funding amount I can receive?

The grant provides up to ₹3 lakhs per startup.

What stage should my startup be at to apply?

Your startup should be in the ideation, design, proof-of-concept (PoC), or early minimum viable prototype (MVP) stage.

Do I need to be registered as a company before applying?

No. You can apply without registration, but you must incorporate as a Private Limited Company or LLP before the funds are disbursed.

Is there an application deadline?

The program is rolling with periodic official calls announced on the KSUM website. There is no fixed annual deadline; monitor the portal for openings.

Does the grant take any equity from my startup?

No. The Idea Grant is an equity-free grant — KSUM does not take any ownership stake.

What expenses can the grant be used for?

Funds can be used for product development, prototyping, testing, validation, and intellectual property creation.

Can I apply if my startup is not based in Kerala?

No. Only innovators based in Kerala are eligible.

How are startups selected?

Applications are screened, and shortlisted teams pitch to an Expert Committee that evaluates idea uniqueness, feasibility, market potential, team strength, and fund utilization plan.

What if my application is rejected?

You may reapply after a minimum of three months from the date of rejection, with an improved proposal.

How do I apply?

Is DPIIT recognition required for Idea Grant?

No. DPIIT (Startup India) recognition is not listed as a mandatory requirement for Idea Grant, though having it can strengthen your application and unlock other benefits.

Who is eligible to apply for Idea Grant?

Idea Grant is open to startups at the idea and product stage. The programme is targeted at startups registered in Kerala. Applicants should be registered as private limited and llp.
