Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Gujarat MSME Technology Acquisition Assistance — Up to ₹50L Subsidy — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.
Frequently asked questions
How much money does this scheme give an MSME?
The state covers 65% of what it costs to acquire the technology, with a maximum payout of ₹50 lakh. On top of that, royalty payments are supported for the first two years of the arrangement, which brings down the continuing cost of using the technology.
Who is eligible to apply?
Micro, small and medium enterprises operating in Gujarat. This is a state scheme run by the Industries and Mines Department, and it is meant exclusively for Gujarat-based MSMEs, so the enterprise itself has to fall in that bracket and be located in the state.
What kind of technology can the subsidy be used for?
The technology has to be obtained from a recognised institution or a recognised technology provider, and it must relate to improving your product or to upgrading your production process. The scheme is built around technology acquisition of that kind, not around general business expenditure.
Is the money a loan, or does the government take equity?
It is a subsidy. There is nothing to repay, and the state does not take an equity stake or any ownership share in your enterprise in exchange for the support.
Do I need approval before going ahead with the technology deal?
Yes. Prior approval from the MSME Commissionerate is a mandatory step, and it must be obtained within one year of signing the MoU for the technology acquisition. Plan for this alongside the online application rather than after it.
What is the deadline for this scheme?
The umbrella scheme is effective from 7 August 2020 until 6 August 2025, so 6 August 2025 is the cut-off for the scheme itself. Separately, the one-year window for obtaining Commissionerate approval runs from the date on which your technology MoU is signed.
How and where do I apply?
Applications are made online through the Investor Facilitation Portal. You begin with "New Investor Registration", fill in and submit the registration form, then verify your email address using the link sent to your registered email. After that you log in with your email and password, complete the required details and upload the business documents the portal marks as mandatory, along with arranging the prior approval from the MSME Commissionerate.
Does the subsidy cover the entire cost of the technology?
No. The state pays 65% of the acquisition cost and the enterprise covers the remaining portion. The assistance is also capped at ₹50 lakh, so any cost above that level is met by the business itself.
What do I need to submit along with the application?
The application is completed online with your business details, and you upload the documents about your business that the portal requires as mandatory. Prior approval from the MSME Commissionerate, obtained within one year of signing the MoU, is a separate requirement that sits alongside the application.
Which industries or sectors does the scheme cover?
The scheme is defined by enterprise size and by the nature of the technology rather than by a list of sectors. Any micro, small or medium enterprise in Gujarat that is acquiring technology from a recognised institution or technology provider, for product improvement or process improvement, is working within the scheme's stated scope.
