Banglashree SGST Subsidy — Tax Refund for West Bengal MSMEs — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Banglashree SGST Subsidy — Tax Refund for West Bengal MSMEs — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Banglashree SGST subsidy actually pay out?
It is not a fixed grant — the amount depends on the tax your unit pays and where it is located. Eligible enterprises get back their net State Goods and Services Tax at 30% if the unit sits in Zone B or Zone C, and at 50% if it sits in Zone D or Zone E. Whatever the rate, the running total of refunds cannot exceed 75% of your total fixed capital investment.
How long does the refund continue?
The refund runs for 8 years, and the clock starts on the date your unit commenced commercial production rather than the date you applied.
Who is eligible for this scheme?
You need to be a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise in the manufacturing sector, with commercial production beginning on or after April 1, 2019. Your Date of Commencement of Commercial Production must also fall between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2025. Units run by private promoters, cooperative societies, joint sector undertakings, State Government-owned companies or undertakings, and Industrial Self-Help Groups are all within scope.
Do I need DPIIT or MSME registration to apply?
The scheme requires the applicant to be a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise, and the review process verifies that status from your application and supporting documents. The published scheme details do not set out a separate DPIIT recognition requirement.
What is the deadline for applying?
Two timelines matter. The scheme itself operated until March 31, 2025. For your own filing, the first application has to go in within 12 months of your Date of Commencement of Commercial Production, or within 12 months of the date the Banglashree scheme was notified — whichever of the two comes later.
Does the scheme take equity or a stake in my business?
No. This is a subsidy in the form of a tax refund, so it is non-dilutive — you do not hand over shares or ownership in return for the money.
How do I apply?
Applications are made online through the Shilpasathi portal at https://silpasathi.wb.gov.in/. You register by selecting your applicant type and entering your registration number, log in, choose 'MSME Incentive' under all services, create a Common Application Form (CAF), complete the eligibility form and the CAF, then fill out 'Online Form - A'. In the subsidy section you record year-wise subsidy details, upload your documents, preview everything, accept the declaration and submit. An application reference number is issued on submission, and you can track the status from your dashboard.
What documents do I need to upload?
The application closes with an upload step covering the relevant supporting documents, which are assessed alongside the information you have entered in the online form. The scheme text does not publish a fixed document checklist.
Can a cooperative unit or a self-help group apply?
Yes. Beyond private sector promoters, the scheme extends to cooperative sector units, joint sector undertakings, companies and undertakings owned and managed by the State Government, and Industrial Self-Help Groups.
How do I track my application after submitting it?
Once you complete the final submission on the portal, you receive an application reference number. That number can be used to check the status of your application on your Shilpasathi dashboard.
