Frequently asked questions
How much money does the Banglashree Power Subsidy actually pay out?
The payout is capped by the size of your unit. A micro enterprise can claim up to ₹10 lakh a year, a small enterprise up to ₹20 lakh a year, and a medium enterprise up to ₹30 lakh a year. The subsidy applies to the electricity your unit consumes for its approved manufacturing activity, so the exact figure depends on your actual consumption against that ceiling.
Who is allowed to apply for this subsidy?
You need to be a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise running a manufacturing operation in West Bengal. Private sector units, cooperative sector units, joint sector undertakings, state government-owned companies and Industrial Self Help Groups are all recognised as eligible promoters.
My factory started production a while ago. Can I still apply?
It depends on your Date of Commencement of Commercial Production, or DOCCP. Commercial production must have begun on or after April 1, 2019, and the DOCCP itself has to fall between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2025.
What is the last date to submit an application?
There is no single fixed deadline for everyone — the window is rolling. Your first application must reach the department within 12 months of your Date of Commencement of Commercial Production, or within 12 months of the scheme notification of April 1, 2020, whichever of the two falls later.
For how many years can I keep claiming the subsidy?
Five years, counted from the date commercial production started for your approved project. Claims are made year-wise, and the application form lets you add each year's breakup separately.
Does this scheme take equity in my company?
No. It is a subsidy, not an investment, so it does not dilute your shareholding or give the government any stake in your business. It is simply a financial incentive against the power you consume.
Do I need DPIIT recognition or a separate MSME registration to qualify?
Eligibility rests on your unit being a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise in the manufacturing sector. The scheme details do not lay down a separate DPIIT startup recognition requirement, so the core test is your MSME status and your production start date.
Can I claim the subsidy on electricity used for anything other than manufacturing?
The subsidy is linked specifically to electricity consumed for your approved manufacturing activity in West Bengal. It is a manufacturing-sector incentive, and the verification step checks the consumption tied to that activity.
How and where do I apply?
Everything is handled online through the Shilpasathi Portal. You first register as a new user and pick your applicant type, then log in and choose 'MSME Incentive' from the services list. From there you create a CAF, complete the eligibility form and the common application form, move on to the 'Online Form - A', fill in year-wise subsidy details, upload your documents, preview the application and hit 'VERIFY & SUBMIT' after confirming the declaration. A reference number is issued once Form-A goes through.
