Assam Orthodox or Specialty Tea Production Subsidy — ₹10–₹12/kg — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Assam Orthodox or Specialty Tea Production Subsidy — ₹10–₹12/kg — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.
Frequently asked questions
How much money does this tea subsidy pay per kilogram?
Eligible manufacturers receive ₹10 per kilogram of Orthodox tea, Green tea, White tea, Oolong tea, Singhpo tea, Purple tea, Yellow tea or other specialty tea. For applications relating to Financial Year 2023-24 — that is, the 2022-23 tea production year — an enhanced rate of ₹12 per kilogram applies.
Who is eligible to apply for the Orthodox or Specialty Tea Production Subsidy?
Tea plantations and tea manufacturing units of any size can apply, provided the whole plantation or factory is located inside Assam. The unit needs to be producing CTC, Orthodox or specialty tea, and for the production subsidy component it must actually manufacture Orthodox, Green, White, Oolong, Singhpo, Purple, Yellow or another specialty tea that is not made through the CTC process. Production must also have begun on or after 1 April 2020.
Which types of tea qualify for the reimbursement?
Orthodox tea, Green tea, White tea, Oolong tea, Singhpo tea, Purple tea, Yellow tea and other specialty teas all qualify. The key exclusion is that the tea must not be produced through the Crush, Tear, Curl (CTC) process.
What is the last date to submit an application?
The application deadline for the current round is 30 June 2024. Since the process is entirely online, it is worth completing your portal registration and unit approval well before that date.
Does the scheme take equity in my tea unit?
No. This is a government subsidy paid as a reimbursement, so it is completely non-dilutive — you give up no shares, ownership or control. The benefit simply arrives as a credit against production you have already achieved.
How and when will I receive the money?
Payments are made by the Finance Department as a Direct Benefit Transfer into the bank account you have registered on the portal, and an SMS alert is sent once the funds are disbursed. Because it is structured as a reimbursement, the money follows the production rather than preceding it.
Can I claim this subsidy along with support from the Tea Board of India or another agency?
Yes. The scheme explicitly states that its benefit is provided in addition to any other subsidy claimed from the Tea Board of India or any other agency, so it is not treated as a substitute for other support.
Is DPIIT recognition or MSME registration required to apply?
The eligibility conditions listed for this scheme do not include a DPIIT recognition requirement or an MSME registration requirement. The tests that apply are the location of your plantation or factory, the type of tea you produce, and having started production on or after 1 April 2020.
How do I apply, and how can I track my application?
Register as a new user on the dedicated Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives portal using your name, mobile number and email, verify the mobile number with an OTP and complete the captcha. Activate your account through the emailed link, log in, upload your supporting documents and unit details, and submit the unit registration for approval. Once approved, go to the "Apply for Benefits" section, select the scheme component, fill the form, attach the required documents and submit. You can log in any time to check your status, and SMS alerts keep you posted on registration and fund release. Technical support is available at atisis.assam@gmail.com.
