FAQ

Answers to the questions founders most often ask about ATISIS Assam — ₹30L Subsidy for Orthodox & Speciality Tea Machinery — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.

Frequently asked questions

What does this Assam tea subsidy actually pay for?

It reimburses a portion of the capital you spend on new plant and machinery used to manufacture Orthodox and Speciality tea in Assam. The scheme sits inside the Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS), which the state's Finance (Institutional Finance) Department launched in 2020 to push tea makers away from plain CTC production and towards higher-value grades.

How much money can a unit receive?

You can claim 25% of the cost of the eligible new plant and machinery you have purchased, capped at ₹30,00,000 (₹30 lakh). The payment is a reimbursement, so it comes back to you after your claim is verified and approved.

Who is eligible to apply?

Any tea plantation or tea manufacturing unit of any size that is located entirely within Assam. It must be producing or expanding capacity for Orthodox and Speciality tea, must have used only brand-new machinery, must have started production on or after 1 April 2020 and before 31 March 2028, and must not have claimed a similar subsidy under another scheme.

Which varieties of tea qualify for the subsidy?

Orthodox tea, Green tea, White tea, Oolong tea, Singhpo tea, Purple tea, Yellow tea and other Speciality teas are covered. Tea manufactured through the Crush, Tear, Curl (CTC) process is excluded, which is the core point of the incentive.

Is there a deadline to apply?

There is no single fixed closing date — applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Two timelines do matter, though: your unit must have begun production between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2028, and your claim has to be submitted within 12 months of the start of commercial manufacturing activity.

Does the scheme take equity in my unit?

No. This is a government subsidy paid as a reimbursement of machinery cost, so it is non-dilutive and takes no stake or ownership in your business.

How and when is the subsidy amount paid out?

After verification and approval, the Finance Department transfers the benefit directly into your registered bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism. An SMS alert is sent to you when the funds are disbursed, and alerts also keep you posted at earlier milestones such as registration approval and application status changes.

Can I sell the subsidised machinery later?

Not immediately. As a post-selection condition, the manufacturing unit cannot sell the subsidised machinery before at least five years have passed from the start of commercial manufacturing. This is meant to ensure the equipment delivers a lasting benefit.

What documents are needed for the application?

You first create a registered account with your name, mobile number and email address, verify the mobile number through an OTP and a captcha code, and activate the account through an email link. After logging in, you upload supporting documents in the prescribed formats along with complete unit details — location, type of tea production and capacity. Claims will generally call for proof of the unit's location, its tea production type, its production start date, the details of the new machinery purchased with cost invoices, and a declaration that no similar subsidy has been claimed. File format and size restrictions apply and are specified on the portal.

How do I apply and track my application?

Everything is done online on the official ATISIS portal. After registration approval, log in and go to the "Apply for Benefits" section, choose the relevant scheme component, complete the prescribed form, upload the required documents and review every entry before submitting. Note down your application reference number and save a copy of the submitted form and confirmation message. You can then log in at any time to track progress through the verification stages, and technical support is available by email if you run into trouble.
