Aatmanirbhar Gujarat Patent Registration Assistance — ₹25L for MSMEs — Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Aatmanirbhar Gujarat Patent Registration Assistance — ₹25L for MSMEs — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.

Frequently asked questions

How much financial assistance does this scheme provide?

The support can go up to ₹25,00,000 per applicant or enterprise. The scheme pays 75% of the total cost of the patent application, so the ceiling and the percentage both apply together — whichever limit is reached first decides the final figure.

Who can apply for this patent registration assistance?

Micro, small and medium enterprises are eligible, and individuals can apply as well. On top of that, the applicant must hold an acknowledgment or registration from the Ministry of MSME or DPIIT.

Does the scheme take equity in my business?

No. This is a subsidy paid out as cash assistance and facilitation support, so it is non-dilutive — you do not give up any equity or ownership in your enterprise in exchange for the funding.

Which expenses are covered?

Eligible costs include patent attorney fees, charges paid to patent service centres, and registration fees. Expenses for patent equipment development are also covered, but travel and hotel costs are excluded.

Is there a limit on how much attorney fees can be claimed?

Yes. Attorney fees are capped at ₹50,000 for a domestic patent, and at ₹2,00,000 per country for international patents. Amounts beyond those limits are not reimbursed under this component.

Is there an application deadline?

The scheme accepts applications on a rolling basis — it is always open — and remains in force from 5 October 2022 to 4 October 2027. The binding deadline for you as an applicant is different: the application must be submitted within one year of the date your patent is published or notified.

When and how is the money paid out?

Payment comes in two instalments of 50% each. The first half is released after the patent is published or notified, and the second half is released once the patent certificate is issued.

Do I need DPIIT or MSME registration to apply?

Yes. The enterprise must have obtained an acknowledgment or registration from the Ministry of MSME or DPIIT. Without that, the application does not meet the scheme's eligibility conditions.

How do I apply for this assistance?

Applications are made online through the Investor Facilitation Portal (IFP). Register as a new investor on the portal, fill in the registration form, submit it, and verify your email ID using the link sent to your registered address. Once verified, log in with your email address and password, then fill in the required details and upload the mandatory documents about your business to complete the application.

What documents do I need to submit?

The application requires you to upload the mandatory documents about your business through the portal. Completeness matters because the online review checks both eligibility and supporting paperwork against the scheme guidelines, so it is best to have all required papers ready before you start the form.
