What is ZED Certification?

ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect) is a government-subsidised quality and sustainability certification for MSMEs, offered by the Ministry of MSME. It has four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, and aims to improve product quality and reduce environmental impact.

How much funding can I get?

The total financial support per MSME is up to ₹2.5 lakh. This includes subsidies on certification costs, testing expenses, and handholding/consultancy support.

What is the application deadline?

There is no fixed deadline — the ZED scheme is open for applications year-round on a rolling basis.

Who is eligible to apply?

All Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises that have completed Udyam Registration are eligible. There are no restrictions on industry, stage, or geographic location.

Do I need DPIIT or MSME registration?

Yes, you need Udyam Registration (MSME registration). DPIIT registration is not required.

Does the program take equity?

No, the program provides subsidies and grants — it does not take any equity stake in your business.

What documents are needed to apply?

You will need your Udyam Registration number. The application is done online on the ZED portal, where you complete a self-assessment questionnaire. No additional documents are typically required upfront.

How do I apply?

Visit the ZED portal at zed.msme.gov.in, register using your Udyam Registration number, complete the self-assessment, and an assessor will conduct an assessment. The portal guides you through the entire process.

What is the joining reward?

A ₹10,000 joining reward is provided upon enrolment. This effectively makes Bronze certification free for most MSMEs.

Is there support beyond certification cost?

Yes. Up to 75% of testing and quality improvement costs (max ₹50,000) are covered, and handholding/consultancy support up to ₹2 lakh is available per ZED-certified MSME.
