Frequently asked questions

What is the Swayam Saksham Yojana and who runs it?

It is a low-interest loan scheme run by the Gujarat Thakor and Koli Vikas Nigam (GTKVN), which works under Gujarat's Social Justice and Empowerment Department. The aim is to push economic self-reliance among professionally qualified and currently unemployed young people from the Thakor and Koli communities.

How much can I borrow under this scheme?

You can take a loan of up to ₹5,00,000. The scheme finances 95% of your total project or business cost, and you have to bring in the remaining 5% yourself.

What interest rate and repayment period does the loan carry?

Interest is charged at 5% per annum. Repayment stretches over a maximum of 5 years, paid as 60 equal monthly instalments. The actual tenure is decided based on the nature of your business and its expected cash flow.

Do I need to invest my own money in the project?

Yes. You are expected to contribute 5% of the total business or project cost from your own side; the scheme's loan takes care of the other 95%. This keeps a personal stake in the venture.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be residents of Gujarat belonging to the Thakor or Koli caste/community, aged between 18 and 35 years, unemployed, and planning to start a self-employment unit. Since the scheme is for professionally qualified candidates, it requires the relevant educational background.

Which professions and trades does the scheme cover?

The scheme is meant for businesses run in your own professional field. Covered areas include Medical practice, Law, Architecture, Engineering, Chartered Accountancy, Hotel Management, Software and Hardware, Financial Consultancy, Pharmacy and Automobile Engineering, as well as formally trained skills like Sculpture and Wrestling.

Is there a family income limit?

Yes. The annual income of the applicant's family should not exceed ₹3,00,000.

Does GTKVN take equity or a stake in my business?

No. The support is structured purely as a loan that you repay in monthly instalments with interest, so no equity or ownership share in your business is given away.

What is the deadline for applying?

There is no fixed cut-off. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so you can apply at any point that suits you.

What documents are needed and how do I apply?

Apply online through the GTKVN website (https://sje.gujarat.gov.in/gtkvn/Schemes/1456?lang=English).
