Frequently asked questions
What is ShowShift?
ShowShift is a business plan case competition focused on the entertainment industry, organised by IIM Bangalore as part of Venix 2026, the institute's annual international business festival. Participants pitch ideas for areas such as streaming platforms, live experiences and content production, and compete across a quiz round and a live pitch round.
How much money can my team win at ShowShift?
There is a prize pool of ₹10,000, which is shared between the winning team and the runner-up teams. The organisers also mention additional prizes worth ₹10,000, which brings the total stated prize value to ₹20,000. On top of that, every participant receives a certificate.
What is the last date to register?
Registration closes on July 27, 2026. Sign-up is handled through the Unstop listing. The overall event window is longer — it runs from July 23 to August 7, 2026, with the quiz early in that period and the offline pitch later.
Who is eligible to apply?
Everyone. The competition is open to all, with no geographic restriction, so both Indian and international participants can enter. It is aimed at students and early-stage entrepreneurs who are interested in the entertainment business, and there is no requirement around company incorporation, revenue or stage of venture.
How many members can a team have?
A team can have between one and three members, so solo entries are allowed. The one firm rule is that a person cannot be part of more than one team in the competition.
Do I need DPIIT recognition or MSME registration to participate?
No. ShowShift is a business plan competition open to all, and the organisers do not require DPIIT recognition, MSME registration, an incorporated company or any similar entity documentation. You simply need to meet the team composition rules and register before the deadline.
Does ShowShift take equity in my startup?
No. This is a prize competition, so the money is awarded to winning teams and no equity, stake or ownership is taken in any venture. The rewards are the cash prizes and the certificates.
How does the competition work — what are the rounds?
There are two rounds. Round one is an online quiz that shortlists the top 15 teams. Round two is a business plan pitch, where the shortlisted teams present offline before a panel of industry veterans. The panel judges innovation, feasibility, market potential and presentation quality.
Is ShowShift online or offline?
It is a mix. The quiz round is conducted online, so you can take it from anywhere. The final pitch round is held offline, which means shortlisted teams must be able to travel to the venue — the organisers will announce the location.
How do I apply for ShowShift?
Register through the Unstop link listed for ShowShift. Make sure your team has between one and three members and that nobody on it is also part of another team, and complete your registration before the July 27, 2026 deadline.
