Frequently asked questions

What is PRIP Call 2?

It is the current round of concept-note submissions under the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector scheme. The scheme is run by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, with a ₹5,000 crore outlay, and it funds R&D as well as commercialisation work on drugs and medical devices.

How much funding can a project receive?

It depends on the track. Early Stage projects can receive up to ₹5 crore, NCE/NBE Discovery Track projects up to ₹50 crore, and Later Stage projects up to ₹100 crore. In the Later Stage track, the grant covers 35-50% of the project cost.

Who is eligible to apply?

Your entity must be registered in India as a company under the Companies Act, an LLP, or a registered partnership firm. One Person Companies, Section 8 companies and sole proprietorships are not eligible. Early-Stage Track applicants also need a valid DPIIT startup recognition certificate or an Udyam Registration Certificate. Individuals, unregistered entities and academic institutions cannot apply directly, though ecosystem enablers may submit on behalf of a project. A project already submitted in PRIP Round 1 cannot be sent in again if it is the same project.

What TRL should my project be at?

Projects should broadly sit between TRL 1 and TRL 6. Early Stage projects are expected to have completed TRL 1, 2 or 3 and to aim for up to TRL 5. Later Stage projects should have completed TRL 4, 5 or 6 and are pushing toward higher levels. Anything already at TRL 7 or above is out of scope.

Is co-funding required?

Yes, at higher amounts. Early Stage projects need 50% co-funding once the request goes above ₹1 crore. NCE/NBE Discovery Track projects must bring at least 25% co-funding from institutional investors, and will need to show co-funding evidence, such as term sheets from those investors.

Is there an application fee, and how is it paid?

Yes. The first five applications are free for startups. MSMEs pay ₹30,000 for their first five applications, and other entities pay ₹1,00,000 for their first five. Fees are paid through Bharatkosh.

What is the application deadline?

PRIP Call 2 runs on a rolling, always-open basis. There is no fixed cut-off date for submitting a concept note.

How does the selection process work?

Early-Stage and NCE/NBE Discovery applicants first submit a Concept Note, which is screened for eligibility and alignment with the scheme's objectives. Shortlisted notes then go through a technical evaluation of the project's potential, novelty, implementation plan and team credentials. Shortlisted applicants, along with direct Later-Stage Track applicants, are invited to file a detailed application form, which is assessed on public health impact, technical rigour, funding and expenditure plans, team and academic partner credentials, market potential and scalability.

What documents do I need to submit?

Expect to provide a detailed project plan and budget justification, entity identification proofs such as DPIIT or Udyam certificates, evidence supporting your TRL claim, research results, regulatory submissions, patent filings, and co-funding evidence — for the NCE/NBE track that means term sheets from investors. The Applicant Support Toolkit carries form templates and guidance.

How and where do I apply?

Concept Notes for the Early-Stage and NCE/NBE Discovery tracks are submitted through the designated online form at https://prip.pharma-dept.gov.in/concept-note.
