Selection process
Applications reach NMDFC through State Channelizing Agencies or banking partners, and are assessed in stages before any money is released.
- Basic eligibility screening. The implementing agency checks the composition of the SHG or TCG, confirming that the minority-community membership threshold is met, and reviews the family income of each individual beneficiary against the relevant credit line limit.
- Thrift and credit record check. The group's history of thrift and credit activity — which must cover at least six months — is treated as a critical factor at this stage.
- Appraisal of the proposed activity. The income-generating activity put forward by the member is appraised in detail for its feasibility and its realistic potential to generate income.
- Preference assessment. Women's Self Help Groups and groups working in rural and minority-concentrated areas are given preference, in line with the scheme's aim of reaching vulnerable communities.
- Final approval and sanction. A comprehensive review of all of the above by the implementing agency leads to the sanction decision, after which the loan is disbursed to the eligible member through the respective channelizing agency or bank.
