FAQ

Answers to the questions founders most often ask about Manav Garima Yojana — Gujarat Grant & Toolkit Scheme for SC Entrepreneurs — who qualifies, the funding amount, required documents and how the application works.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for the Manav Garima Yojana?

You need to be a Scheduled Caste individual and a native of Gujarat, aged between 18 and 60 years. Annual family income should be up to ₹6,00,000 for Scheduled Caste applicants. If you belong to the Most Backward Caste among Scheduled Castes, there is no income limit. Applicants who have already received benefits under this scheme, or whose family members have, are not eligible.

How much funding does the scheme provide?

The scheme provides financial assistance to help you establish a cottage industry, but there is no single fixed amount — the assistance varies, and the scheme itself is classified as a grant rather than a loan. Alongside the money, a selected beneficiary also receives a toolkit for their trade, so the total support includes both cash and equipment.

Is there a deadline to apply?

No. Applications run on a rolling basis and are accepted throughout the year, so there is no last date you need to race against. You can apply whenever you have your details and documents ready.

Do I have to repay the money or give up equity?

No. This is a grant, so there is no repayment obligation and no equity or ownership stake is taken in your venture. That is the core design of the scheme — it exists so that a Scheduled Caste entrepreneur does not have to approach a bank for a loan in order to start working.

What trades are covered by the toolkit?

Toolkits are provided for 28 identified trades. The list includes handicraft, stitching, tailoring, embroidery, pottery, plumbing, beauty parlour services, electrical appliance repair, carpentry, laundry, vehicle servicing and mobile repairing, as well as various types of selling and small-goods making. GRIMCO handles the purchase and distribution of the kits.

Can I apply if I or a family member already received this benefit?

No. Beneficiaries who have previously availed benefits under this scheme, and applicants whose family members have received them, are excluded from applying again. It is a one-time benefit per family.

I live outside Gujarat. Can I still apply?

No. Being a native of Gujarat is one of the stated eligibility conditions, along with belonging to the Scheduled Caste category and falling within the 18 to 60 age band.

How do I apply for the Manav Garima Yojana?

There are two routes. Online, you register on the e-Samaj Kalyan portal at https://esamajkalyan.gujarat.gov.in/ — click 'Please Register Here' under 'Citizen Login', enter your details, log in, complete your user profile, then select the Manav Garima Yojana scheme, fill the form, upload documents, accept the terms and save. What documents and details will I need?

During portal registration you provide your full name as per Aadhaar, gender, date of birth, Aadhaar card number, email ID and caste. The application itself requires you to fill all mandatory fields and upload the relevant documents. For the offline form, you paste a passport-sized photograph (signing across it if required) and attach self-attested copies of all the mandatory documents before submitting.

How is the final selection decided?

Submitted applications are first screened for eligibility and completeness. Those that clear screening are processed and evaluated by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Gujarat, or its designated authority. The final list of beneficiaries for financial assistance and toolkits is decided on the basis of the scheme guidelines, the applicant's profile and the resources available.

Does the scheme require DPIIT or MSME registration?
