Frequently asked questions
Who can apply for the Mahila Samruddhi Scheme?
Applicants must be women living in Gujarat who belong to a socially and educationally backward class, with Other Backward Classes (OBC) as the primary group targeted. Their family's yearly income cannot exceed ₹3,00,000, their age must be between 21 and 45 years on the date of application, and they should already have experience in the business they intend to start, along with any technical skills it requires.
How much funding can I get under this scheme?
You can borrow up to ₹1,25,000 (₹1.25 lakh). The loan is meant to finance a self-employment venture, so the amount you ask for should line up with the business you are proposing and the cost of setting it up.
What is the interest rate, and how is the loan repaid?
The loan carries an annual interest rate of 4%. It is repaid through 48 equal monthly instalments, and those instalments already include the interest, so there is no separate interest outgo to plan for.
Do I have to put in any money of my own?
Yes. The scheme covers 95% of the unit cost in the form of a loan, and the remaining 5% of the unit cost is the beneficiary's own contribution. Within the loan portion, a National Corporation provides 95% and the State Government provides 5%.
Does the scheme take equity in my business?
No. Mahila Samruddhi is a debt scheme, so what you receive is a loan that you repay in monthly instalments. Neither the government nor the corporation takes shares or any ownership stake in your venture in return for the funding.
