Sustainability Hackathon 2026

The Sustainability Hackathon 2026 is a multi-phase competition organized by IIT Bombay in partnership with Honeywell through the Centre of Excellence for Future Skills & Innovation (IHCFSI). It aims to identify and nurture creative, impactful sustainability solutions from students and early-stage innovators across India. The hackathon focuses on real-world challenges in clean energy, agriculture, healthcare, water & wastewater, circular economy, sustainable mobility, and waste management.

Participants can present ideas, demonstrate prototypes, and develop solutions through product innovation, policy recommendations, or process improvements. Beyond the competition, the hackathon strengthens participant capacity through structured mentorship and fosters a robust industry-academia ecosystem. Selected high-potential ideas may receive seed grants up to ₹50 Lakh and incubation support at IIT Bombay.

The hackathon is open to students enrolled in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD programs at any recognized academic institution in India. Each team must consist of a minimum of 3 members and a maximum of 4 members. Additionally, every team is required to have one faculty member serving as a mentor.

The selection process is structured in multiple phases:

• Idea Submission & Screening: Teams submit their ideas by July 15, 2026. Applications are screened by a panel of experts.
• Pitch Deck Submission: Shortlisted teams submit a detailed pitch deck in August.
• Pitch Deck Evaluation: A jury comprising IIT Bombay faculty and industry experts evaluates pitch decks based on innovation, scalability, impact, and feasibility.
• Mentorship Phase: Highest-scoring teams receive structured mentorship from October to November to refine their solutions and presentations.
• Grand Finale: Teams present their final solution and prototype to a grand jury from December 3-5, 2026.
