Frequently asked questions
What is the Honda Innovation Challenge 2.0?
It is a co-development programme run by Honda with T-Hub for startups building digital mobility solutions. Honda invites selected teams to work with its own digital, strategy, engineering and customer-experience staff to design, build and validate proof-of-concept products that improve how people own, use and experience a Honda. This second edition follows an earlier challenge and concentrates on the digital side of the ownership experience.
How much funding does a selected startup receive?
Each selected startup can receive up to ₹40 lakh as co-development funding. The four startups in the cohort share a total grant pool of ₹1.6 crore, and the money is intended to support building the proof of concept alongside Honda. Alongside the funds, teams get technical mentorship from Honda and business mentorship plus network access through T-Hub. The grant is not a loan and no equity is exchanged for it.
Does the programme take equity or charge a fee?
No. There is no participation fee for the Honda Innovation Challenge 2.0, and the programme does not take equity in your startup. Your team keeps ownership of its intellectual property, and any terms covering work that is co-developed are settled openly before the build phase starts.
Who is eligible to apply?
The programme is open to startups that already have a working MVP ready for validation in real-world conditions. Your solution needs to be relevant to at least one focus area, and your team must be able to build and deploy within the proof-of-concept timeline. Reviewers also look at whether the product can scale, whether the economics work, and whether it is ready to integrate with existing systems. Traction with early customers strengthens an application, but it is not compulsory.
What focus areas should my solution address?
The challenge is looking for digital mobility solutions that improve the Honda ownership experience across four named areas: mobility, safety for women, connected experiences and smarter ownership. Together these cover safety, convenience and the use of connected features in a vehicle. You can indicate more than one focus area in your application if your product spans them.
When do applications open and what is the deadline?
The application window opens on 20 August 2026 and closes on 2 October 2026. Selected startups are onboarded during October 2026, so the turnaround from submission to cohort start is short — have your product demo and pitch material ready well before the deadline.
How do I apply for the Honda Innovation Challenge 2.0?
Applications are submitted online through the official portal at https://www.t-hub.co/honda-innovation-challenge-2-0. When you fill in the form, list every focus area your solution addresses. Submissions then go through joint screening by Honda and T-Hub before shortlisted teams are invited to pitch.
What happens after a startup is selected?
Selected startups are onboarded in October 2026 and matched to a specific focus area. From October 2026 to January 2027 they work with Honda on co-development and a proof of concept, with mentorship sessions and milestone reviews along the way. The phase closes with a Demo Day in January 2027, where the solutions are presented to Honda's leadership.
Is there a pilot opportunity with Honda after the PoC?
Yes. Once the proof-of-concept phase closes, the solutions judged strongest get a structured pathway to pilot with Honda. That route is the practical bridge from a validated prototype to deployment at scale.
Who owns the IP developed during the programme?
Your startup retains ownership of its intellectual property. Where work is co-developed with Honda, the specific terms are agreed transparently before the build phase begins, so ownership is never left ambiguous once the PoC work starts.
