Overview

Campus Fund has run the Grand Challenge every year since 2020, and the 2026 edition is the seventh. It is the country's largest competition created specifically for ventures started by people who are still studying, who have dropped out, or who finished their studies recently.

The logic behind it is straightforward. A student team with a real product usually does not lack ambition — what it lacks is a room full of investors, operators and fellow founders. The Grand Challenge builds that room. Entrants compete for one of 15 finalist places, and those teams then pitch live in Mumbai before a jury drawn from venture capital, founding teams and business leadership.

This is a competition, not a grant scheme. Campus Fund positions it as an ecosystem enabler: the return is visibility, candid feedback and the introductions that shorten the gap between a campus project and an investable company.

Because the challenge is national in scope, a team from any Indian city can enter — and if you make the finale from outside Mumbai, your travel and stay are covered.

Highlights

  • Seventh edition of Campus Fund's national student startup competition

Who can apply

The Grand Challenge is open to founders who are currently enrolled, who have dropped out, or who graduated in 2023 or later. Undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD candidates are all eligible, and there is no restriction on your academic background or stream.

  • At least one founder on the team must meet the student, dropout or 2023-onward-graduate criterion.
  • That eligible founder has to hold 25% or more of the company's equity.
  • Founders from any college and any city across India may apply.
  • Solo founders are eligible — you do not need a co-founder to enter.

Beyond founder status and the equity holding, the published rules do not impose sector, state or entity-type conditions.

What the funding covers

Campus Fund does not publish a fixed cash prize for the Grand Challenge, so the value of taking part lies in access rather than in a cheque. What finalists and participants get is described as follows:

  • Direct contact with leading investors, established founders and prominent business leaders.
  • A live pitching slot at the Grand Finale for the Top 15 teams.
  • Interactive sessions with the jury, giving you critical feedback on your venture.
  • Exposure to the wider investor ecosystem, which can lead to investment conversations.
  • Travel and accommodation covered for outstation finalists travelling to the Grand Finale in Mumbai.
  • A national platform to showcase your innovation to an audience of decision-makers.

Because the prize is exposure and connectivity rather than a stated amount, the benefits are designed to speed up growth and open up later funding routes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Campus Fund Grand Challenge 2026?

It is the seventh edition of a national competition run by Campus Fund exclusively for ventures built by student founders. The challenge has existed since 2020 and is described as the biggest competition of its kind in India. Entrants compete for a place in the Top 15, and those teams go on to pitch live at the Grand Finale in Mumbai for a jury of investors, founders and business leaders.

Who can apply for the Grand Challenge?

You can apply if you are currently a student, if you have dropped out, or if you graduated in 2023 or later. Founders at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level are all eligible, regardless of the subject they studied. Any college and any city in India works. On a team, at least one founder must satisfy the student, dropout or recent-graduate criterion and must hold 25% or more equity in the company.

How much funding do winners receive?

Campus Fund does not state a fixed funding amount as a prize for the Grand Challenge, so there is no published cheque size to point to. What participants gain instead is visibility with leading investors, direct feedback from the jury, networking with founders and business leaders, and possible investment leads. Outstation finalists also have their travel and accommodation to Mumbai covered.

Is there an application fee?

No. Applying to the Grand Challenge is free of charge.

What is the last date to apply, and how do I submit my entry?

Applications close on 10 October 2026. You apply by submitting the online application form through Campus Fund's official portal, which is the entry point linked from this page. There is no offline route mentioned.

Can solo founders apply, and what is the 25% equity rule?

Yes, solo founders are welcome to apply — a co-founder is not mandatory. The 25% rule applies to teams and companies: at least one founder who meets the eligibility criteria (current student, dropout, or graduate from 2023 onwards) must own 25% or more of the equity in the company.

What happens after applications close?

All entries go through a rigorous screening by the Campus Fund team. Promising ventures are shortlisted and the Top 15 startups are announced in November 2026. Those 15 teams are then invited to pitch their startups live to the jury at the Grand Finale, which is how the top performers of the challenge are decided.

Where and when is the Grand Finale, and is travel covered?

The Grand Finale takes place in Mumbai on 10 December 2026. If you are a finalist travelling from outside Mumbai, Campus Fund covers both your travel and your accommodation for the event.

Is DPIIT recognition or MSME registration required to apply?

No. The published eligibility rules for the Grand Challenge do not list DPIIT recognition or MSME/Udyam registration as a condition. What matters is your founder status — current student, dropout, or graduate from 2023 onwards — and, for teams, that at least one eligible founder holds 25% or more equity.

How are the startups judged?

Screening looks at four things: innovation, scalability, team strength and market potential. At the Grand Finale, the jury evaluates each live pitch on clarity, viability, impact and how well it is presented. The jury is made up of leading investors, renowned founders and influential business leaders.
