What is BugBash 2026?

BugBash 2026 is a 24-hour national hackathon organised by Newton School of Technology in Bengaluru, focusing on AI, problem-solving, debugging, and building practical tech solutions.

Who is eligible to participate?

The hackathon is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Teams may have 1–4 members (solo participation allowed), and cross-college teams are permitted. Each participant may join only one team.

What is the prize amount?

The total cash prize pool is ₹65,000. The first-place winner receives ₹40,000, and the second-place winner gets ₹25,000. Additional awards include certificates, goodies, and potential networking/internship opportunities.

What are the themes or tracks?

Participants can choose from two tracks: Track 1 — Build an AI Agent (autonomous system) and Track 2 — Build Something Using AI (functional product with AI as core). Official problem statements are revealed at the start of the hackathon.

What is the application deadline and how do I apply?

The registration deadline is April 24, 2026. You must register via the Unstop link (https://unstop.com/hackathons/bugbash-aayam-newton-school-of-technology-bengaluru-karnataka-1658793) with a valid college or government ID.

When and where does the hackathon take place?

The hackathon runs continuously for 24 hours from 12:00 PM on April 25, 2026 to 1:00 PM on April 26, 2026, held in Bengaluru, Karnataka (in-person).

What are the event stages?

The event begins with an opening ceremony and problem statement reveal. It includes three mini-challenges (debugging/rapid build rounds), a final submission window before Hour 23, and final judging and a closing ceremony at Hour 24.

What documents do I need to register?

A valid college ID or government ID is mandatory for registration. It is strongly advised to review the official rulebook before the event.

Are there any non-cash prizes?

Yes, winners and runner-ups receive certificates and goodies. All finalists get certificates, and top performers may be considered for networking or internship opportunities (subject to availability).

Can I form a team with students from other colleges?

Yes, cross-college teams are allowed. Teams can have up to 4 members, and solo participants are also welcome.

How much funding does BugBash provide?

BugBash provides ₹65,000 (up to) as competition. Always confirm the exact amount and any conditions on the official site, as figures can change between cohorts.

Does BugBash take equity?

No. BugBash is competition and is non-dilutive — the provider does not take an equity stake in your startup.

Is DPIIT recognition required for BugBash?
