Selection process
Applications are invited through the concerned Local Self Government body, and the first round of scrutiny and evaluation happens at the Grama Panchayat level. Working from a fixed set of parameters, the Panchayat allocates marks and prepares a seniority list of applicants.
Marks are awarded for:
- BPL family status (up to 20 marks)
- number of daughters — 10 marks for two daughters, 20 marks for more than two
- barbershop seating capacity, with a preference for shops seating fewer than 3 (20 marks)
- differently-abled applicant status (20 marks)
- length of work experience (6 to 10 marks depending on tenure)
The ranked applications then move forward, carrying the recommendations of the LSGD authorities, to the Regional Deputy Directors of the Backward Communities Development Department (BCDD), who give final consideration and make the selection. Where two applicants finish on the same score, the tie is resolved in favour of the applicant whose annual family income is lower.
